I was at a local performance of this piece last night by Annandale Community Orchestra in Annandale, Virginia. Guitar soloist was Mathew Trkula of George Mason University. It was one of the most beautiful and romantic things I've ever heard, so I just had to find a YouTube performance of the adagio. found a couple of them, but this one with guitar solo by John Williams and BBC Symphony Orchestra came closest to what I experienced last night. It is a superb and beautiful performance but a YouTube video still can't quite replace experiencing a live performance by a more than adequate local community orchestra. Guitarist Mathew Trkula gave an exquisite performance.

I recommend watching and listening to this adagio with your significant other while sharing a glass of wine, but even if you find yourself listening alone, have that glass of wine and let you imagination fly.

Some notes on the composer of the piece Joaquin Rodrigo (1901-1999) that I learned from the program notes of the live performance. Rodrigo, a Spanish composer of the 20th century, was completely blind at the age of three, but went on to to become a virtuoso pianist and composer writing in Braille. He never played guitar though he wrote beautiful music for that instrument.
